If a regular mask seals those paths comfortably, weight is not required for the light-blocking job. If a weighted mask has gaps, its added mass does not turn those gaps into blackout.

This is also why no honest comparison can promise one category blocks 100 percent of light for every face. Nose shape, head circumference, sleep position, pillow height, and the mask’s own construction all change the result.

Where added weight changes the experience

Added filling changes how a flexible object behaves. It gives the mask more mass, changes its drape, and makes its contact easier to notice. Another 2024 review found a small pooled anxiety effect but a nonsignificant pooled insomnia difference before sensitivity analysis, again with limited and heterogeneous studies. 1. Check light before changing tension

Put the mask on in the room where you actually sleep. Lie in your normal position and look for light near the nose, lower edge, and temples. Reposition the mask before tightening it. More tension can replace one problem with pressure or pulling.

2. Name the contact you prefer
